Nyalam is a small sleepy town surrounding a large Chinese military establishment. Like most of the other town that we visited, it seems that these establishment are the basic building block of the town economy. The '5 Star' shining prominently at the top, these establishments are huge and house town administrative units as well.

There is a small marketplace in the only alley which the town has to offer. There is also a school close to the market in the middle of the alley. At one end of the alley are small hotels and on the other are residential units. While the town has a small alley, there is a highway which is being built alongside the town which stops the traffic to move from 11 am in the morning till 8 pm at night. Obviously China with its size and the growth rate can afford to antagonise a few religious tourists, especially if they hail from a specific country :).
Madam Mamta with local kids during the trip
We stayed at Nyalam for a full day to acclimatize ourselves and watch beautiful mountains surrounding us. There was a snowfall in the night which added the snowy beauty to the imposing monoliths. After a near comfortable stay in a dormitory lodge, we moved on after breakfast to our next destination, Saga.
