"On April 1, Drishtee started a new chapter in its history with the reshuffle of all staff into new positions as per the organization structure drawn up by top management. This structure will strengthen us to achieve the targets set forth by our new business plan, which we have been working on since October 2008."
So what is this new structure, and what does it mean for you?
Let's start from the top. The organization has been split into two parts:
1) Corporate Office -- This office is comprised of the senior management, which includes: the Managing Director, Satyan Mishra; President of Functions, Nitin Gachhayat; President of Business and Human Development, Siddhartha Shankar, and the President of Audit and Statutory, Mamta Mishra, who is also continuing to head Drishtee Foundation. The Functions team would include Process and Planning (including IT), headed by Nakul Pasricha, Marketing & Communication being led by AVP, M & C, Swapna Mishra and the Product Development team, which would have a VP-Product Development. That post is currently open.
The Corporate Office will be responsible for defining and rolling out the strategy, processes, IT systems, financial procedures, marketing frameworks, communication policies and HR policies that will serve to strengthen the organization for the road ahead. This office would not get into field operations. Rather it would seek to review the performance of the field and come up with ways to support teams to meet their targets.
2) Area Office -- This is the operational heart of Drishtee. The responsibility for managing the entire business of Drishtee on the ground lies with this office, headed by Shailesh Thakur, the Area Commander, supported by Controllers for each of the five verticals -- education, health, microfinance, products and EPK -- as well as for functions such as accounts and HR.
You might well ask here what the difference is between a Commander and a Controller. To put it simply, a Commander is responsible for the P&L of a geography or office, and is the leader of the team working in that geography. It is he or she who would monitor day-to-day-operations of the geography across all verticals, make corrections or adjustments as needed, and report to senior management on the progress made and the issues faced in the field. A Controller, on the other hand, is responsible only for one specific vertical or function. He or she has to audit the operations of the vertical, ensure that processes are being followed, see that all metrics as to the health of the vertical are looking good, and train and guide field staff to meet the targets.
The area has been divided into three territories at the moment -- Mathura/Moradabad, Assam and Rest of India. This would be expanded to ten territories as per the business plan, in due course. Each territory has a Territory Commander, and a set of Assistant Controllers, much like at the area level. The only difference is that while the Controllers at the area office audit operations across the territories, the assistant controllers need to play a more active role in their territory and be monitoring operations daily. The territory would be a complete unit of P&L, managing its own accounts (which would be audited by the Area) and taking care of most of its own HR needs.
Each territory is divided into five or six divisions. A division office is the lowest physical operational structure in Drishtee. This office contains a team of upto 30 people, divided into five unit teams, each of which is led by a Unit Commander, and contains a Delivery Executive, Sales Executive (formerly known as a DBA), Health Executive (formerly known as a Phlebotomist) and a Microfinance Executive. This team is responsible for the operations of an entire unit, which is comprised of five routes. The Division Commander oversees the whole office and ensures the smooth running of all operations. It is important to note here that Drishtee is not yet operating all services in all divisions, so the division structure might vary slightly from place to place, with certain positions not being filled if not required.
So there you have it. Drishtee has a completely new look for the new financial year, and most of you would already have got your new role and your new KRAs in line with this structure. Management is looking at each and every employee to put in a focused and dedicated effort to excel at your position, so that in harmony, we can make the entire organization an even bigger success.
To paraphrase the late American president, John F. Kennedy, "Ask not what Drishtee can do for you, ask what you can do for Drishtee." Keep focused, and most of all, have fun!
